All Voices Welcome!
SHH @Home PROJECT and virtual gold
A virtual experience in a real-world choral a cappella community

YOU are a SINGER.  Even if your regular choir is on hiatus right now, you are in between singing groups or you just don’t have enough music in your life – you are a singer.  Maybe, like us, you have come to realize that it might be a while before you can raise your voice in song with others in person due to risk of spreading the Coronavirus?  And, you have this insatiable desire to sing, right?  Us too.  So, join us until that day comes and…
  • Build up your singing skills with the help of some of the greatest clinicians in…the…world.  Seriously.
  • Learn songs with the support of music leaders and fellow singers.
  • Get positive coaching on your singing.
  • Join in a community of singers for the fun AND the music – we’ll enjoy some distractions in our online gatherings.
Somerset Hills Harmony is a dynamic and growing open membership a cappella chorus in New Jersey.  We are members of the Barbershop Harmony Society and the Contemporary A Cappella League.  SHH (the most ironic abbreviation in the choral world) features a contemporary a cappella ensemble within its midst – The Gold Dynamic.  BOTH groups are inviting singers everywhere to join in our singing fun via virtual rehearsals and contributing to a steady stream of audio and video recordings of upbeat tunes.  Introducing the SHH @Home Project and Virtual Gold.

Virtual Rehearsals?
Yup.  We’ve been rehearsing in a safe online space for a few months now using the Zoom platform.  We rehearse from 7:15 to about 9:15 every Monday night.  You can use a smartphone or any computer and don’t even need to download the app (for those that are worried about privacy and security).   We’ll have lessons on music theory, warm ups, guest clinicians to raise our singing skills, “rehearse” in sectionals and help each other with musical or technical skills.  We add in a few entertaining activities each week including ice breakers, music related games or zany fun.

Can’t make each week?
No worries.  We record them and share the link with our singers so they can catch up or go right to a portion of rehearsal that interests them.

Don’t live in NJ?
That’s ok, you are absolutely welcome (and we won’t hold it against you).  For this virtual setting it doesn’t matter where you are.  Just keep in mind that we are meeting in Eastern Standard Time, so if you are in Stockholm it might be a late night for you.

Wait, TWO groups?
Yeah, I know, you wish there were even more groups!  SHH @Home Project has dozens of members and goes for that nice, full choral sound.  Virtual Gold features the collegiate-style contemporary a cappella sound like you may have seen in “Pitch Perfect”, with a great melody line and harmony singers and beatboxers often emulating musical instruments.  Virtual Gold is a subset ensemble of the Somerset Hills Harmony Chorus and many members of the @Home Project are also participating in Virtual Gold.

What will we sing? Songs that are just fun to sing and give us a nice diversion from the stress of the day.  We feature a diversity of music genres in our repertoire, however we are focusing on uplifting songs that are flat out fun to sing.  Currently in the queue for SHH @Home Choir are “Seasons of Love” from the broadway musical, "Rent", “Red Rubber Ball” written by Paul Simon for The Cyrkle and Pharrell’s “Happy”.  Similarly, Virtual Gold is working on “Build Me Up Buttercup” and “I’ll be there For You” (the theme from “Friends”).  We will be adding songs as we go along with no more than two songs in prime focus at any point in time.

Do I have to record myself?
No one HAS to do anything.  If are like most of us, we were reluctant to record ourselves at home.  Most people think their singing voices sound awful.  Guess what?  Your voice isn’t awful. If you are a virtual virtuoso already, sweet.  If you are a little nervous, we’ll help you along and even coach you on how to record yourself.  We start with audio only recordings to get the music sounding right.  Then we will look to combine the audio with video to create an entertaining performance to share with the world, either as a music video or as a “virtual chorus”.

What’s the catch – how much does this cost?
Nada.  No catch.  If you can contribute a few dollars to cover the music, we’ll give you a virtual high five and real thanks, but no contribution is required.  Part of our mission is to share harmony with everyone that could use some music in their life.  This online experience is a great new way that we can fulfil that mission.

What will we do when it’s safe to sing together in person again? We can’t wait for that day!  SHH and The Gold Dynamic will keep the music and fun going in person in New Jersey with rehearsals at Pluckemin Presbyterian Church.  All of our new virtual friends would be welcome to keep singing with the group and we may even continue the online gathering concept going in some form.  Who knows what the future holds?

Do I need to audition?  Nope.  Breath easy, there is no stressful audition.  Everyone is invited to participate, there is no membership committment and you can stay as long as you like.  If you decide to contribute your voice to the recordings we just ask that you make it as great a recording as you can, with the best accuracy and sound quality you can produce.

RSVP by sending an email to with your name, the area where you live, how you heard about us, and contact information including a phone number so we can reach out to you.  Feel free to ask us any questions or share a little bit about your singing experience.  We can’t wait to meet you, virtually!
